Reading Calendar
Each school night, Monday through Friday, your child should read from the book of their choice for a period of twenty minutes. Your child can read silently or read aloud to you or another family member or friend. After reading a parent should initial the homework calendar to verify that homework was completed for the night. At the end of the month the homework calendar will be returned and a new one will be taken home.

Green Folders
Green folders will come home on Friday. They are due back to school on Monday. The left side of the folder contains papers that need to be signed and returned to school. Papers on the right side should be removed and kept at home. Your child's behavior calendar will always be on the sign and return side of their green folder. I require all D and F papers to be signed as well as all test with the exception of spelling tests. All graded daily work will come home on Friday in green folders.

Book Orders
Monthly book order forms from a variety of different companies will be sent home this year. Ordering from these is optional. It does provide an opportunity to receive grade appropriate reading material at a reasonable cost. If you choose to order books remember to send book orders in an envelope labeled with your child's name. Please make all book order checks to the book club. The clubs will not except cash.
Homework
In addition to the twenty minutes of nightly reading homework each student will bring home a homework folder on Mondays. In the folder will be homework for Monday through Wednesday nights. The homework folder should be returned to school on Thursday. In the homework folder may be such things as a handwriting practice sheet, a math review worksheet and/or a phonics worksheet. In addition to the homework folder once a week the children will bring home their readers to read a story. When homework requires the students to bring home their reader please only keep this book home for one night. We use our readers in class daily and if your child's book is at home it makes it very difficult for participation in class. Homework folders will always be sent home on Monday and are expected to be returned on Thursday. Hopefully this procedure will enable busy families to adjust and allow for the time needed to prepare for class each day.

Parent Newsletters
Each month your child will bring home a monthly classroom newsletter. The letter will go home during the first week of the month. In this newsletter will be important updates and reminders of upcoming events in our room, as well as curriculum overviews for the month. This newsletter provides a wonderful resource for any student who is currently being tutored. The curriculum overview gives specific skills that will be covered each month. Look for newsletters on brightly colored yellow paper during the beginning of each month.

Birthdays
Birthdays are recognized for each student by the special hall bulletin board display, web site listing, and the Parent Bulletin. The 3rd Friday of each month will be designated as birthday celebration day in the cafeteria. Students having a birthday that month will have free dress and cake at lunch. June and July birthdays will be celebrated at a time determined by the school office. Watch the parent bulletin for the date of June and July celebrations. Student birthdays are not celebrated in the classroom.

Visitors
In order to protect the children, it is important that all visitors use the main entrance and report to the office upon entering the building. Please sign in, and obtain a visitor's pass. Upon leaving, visitors must sign out and return the pass.

Dismissal
Students riding the bus home will be dismissed at 2:00. Students who ride in cars will be dismissed at 2:02. If your child needs to be dismissed earlier for a particular reason please send a note to the classroom teacher and the office. At registration parents list how each child is to go home daily. Without a note from a parent or a note from the office children will be sent home the designated way.
